Meek Mill Launches DreamChasers Records With Roc Nation, Has Decade-Long Conviction Thrown Out

Score one — make it two — for the good guy.

On Wednesday (July 24th) Meek Mill took the next step in his career, and formally launched DreamChasers Records as a joint venture with JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation. Meek will serve as president of the label and, according to Roc Nation, will “oversee the label and build a staff that will spearhead talent acquisition and development, label operations, creative strategy, marketing and legal, among other positions.”

“Creating a record label has always been the next step in my journey as a businessman and I appreciate Roc Nation and JAY-Z’s support on this new venture,” Meek said in a statement. “I want to take my experiences in the music industry, use them to find young, hungry talent and open doors for the next generation of artists.”

But wait, there’s more!

After a very long and arduous legal battle, Meek’s 2008 conviction in a drug and gun case has at last been thrown out of court. “The unanimous three-judge opinion Wednesday grants the rapper born Robert Williams a new trial because of new evidence of alleged police corruption,” says Billboard.

The result also effectively overturns Meek’s 2017 conviction, which led to him being incarcerated for five months.

“I’d like to thank the Pennsylvania Superior Court judges for their wisdom and transparency in reviewing my case, unanimously overturning my conviction and granting me a new trial,” Meek said in a statement. “The past 11 years have been mentally and emotionally challenging, but I’m ecstatic that justice prevailed.

This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, my attorneys, JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office and my supporters who have stood with me through the ups and downs. Unfortunately, millions of people are dealing with similar issues in our country and don’t have the resources to fight back like I did. We need to continue supporting them. I’m committed to working with my team at the REFORM Alliance to change these outdated laws and fix our broken criminal justice system.”

Again, score two for the good guy.
