Stephen Curry Gifts Sneakers to 8-Year Old Boy and ‘Hero’ Father

At the age of 2, Charleston’s Jackson Smoak nearly drowned when he rode his tricycle into his family’s backyard pool. However, his father Jason sprung into action, rescuing his son and performing CPR until he breathed again.

Now 8 years old, young Jackson has a sense of understanding and appreciation for what his father, who he refers to as his hero, did for him that day.

“I wouldn’t have been here if he didn’t save me,” Jackson told ABC News 4.

Wanting to do something special for Father’s Day, Jackson reached out to someone else he looks up to—Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry. Jackson penned a letter to the 2-time MVP, in which he poured his heart out and asked for matching pairs of the bright yellow “Coy Fish” Under Armour Curry 6 for he and his father. Not surprisingly, Curry obliged.

About a month later, Jackson received a package containing the matching sneakers. Too excited to wait until Father’s Day, he shared the letter and shoes with Jason early.

“It’s pretty nice to see your son call you a hero. Pretty nice,” he said.

Recently, Curry also made headlines for sending the Curry 6 to 9-year old Riley Morrison, a young girl who wrote him asking why Under Armour didn’t list his shoes in the girls’ section of its website. Under Armour went out to produce a special “United We Win” colorway inspired by Riley for International Women’s Day.
