Royce 5’9″ – “Field Negro”

With over two decades in the game, it’s hard to believe Royce 5’9″ still hasn’t even hit his peak yet. Riding with DJ Premier in his PRhyme, the Detroit lyricist released his magnum opus just last year in the form of Book of Ryan.

Continuing his upward momentum, Royce comes through with what might be his most powerful song to date, self-produced “Field Negro.”

Clocking in at six minutes, Nickel Nine holds nothing back as he details the horrific history of racism and slavery, drags the industry for their desperate need for fame and acceptance, reminds Tory Lanez to take a seat when grown folks are talking, stands with Kaep, and much more. There’s so much to unpack that you may have to run things back to fully embrace the potent message.
