Comme des Garçons’ latest Nike collaboration is set to release overseas this weekend. The legendary Japanese fashion label put a new spin on one of Tinker Hatfield’s lesser-appreciated models, 2002’s Air Presto Foot Tent.
Perhaps too futuristic looking at the time, the Foot Tent doesn’t seem as obscure of a design in the current sneaker climate given the various technical and high fashion styles that have become so popular in recent years. The sneaker maintains the shape of the original Air Presto, but the major difference is that the TPU lacing cage has been replaced by a tent-like shroud that sits slightly above the entire upper. A pull chord lacing system also supplants the traditional setup. Unlike the original version, this collab uses the standard Presto midsole.
First shown during CdG’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019, the Air Presto Foot Tent will arrive in two colorways. One slightly resembles Nike’s “Neon” color scheme with a majority black upper and neon green accents. The other opts for a more colorful approach with a baby blue upper and bright red detailing.
The Comme des Garçons x Nike Air Presto Foot Tent will release exclusively at the CdG Hong Kong flagship on Saturday, Jan. 12 for app. $330. A stateside release has yet to be announced.
