“As an artist, the greatest thing Nike has given me is the ability to expand my creative process and think ‘these are not constraints, these are other ways of thinking.“
Tom Sachs praises in partners at Nike, describing his NikeCraft venture with the brand as a 50/50 process, fueled by production he says only he and Nike are capable of. The latest project from the NikeCraft range is the Mars Yard Overshoe, a snow boot-like silhouette designed to combat the elements during winter, while retaining its fashion appeal beyond.
Through rigorous wear-testing of his own, Sachs expanded on what was established with the Mars Yard 2.0, providing solutions where he felt necessary with this weather-ready-silhouette. Tech such as Dyneema, a strong fiber used in boat rope and sails, is employed to protect the wearer’s feet while worn.
Celebrating the London premiere of Sachs’ latest film Paradox Bullets, a limited release of the Mars Yard Overshoe will be release Oct. 11 at DSM London in-store via online raffle. A global release date will be announced in the coming months.
UPDATE (12/07): According to @py_rates on Twitter, the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard Overshoe will reportedly be getting a wider release on Jan. 31, 2019 for $550.
